Gilbert Varela is a proven Idaho State run-stopper with veteran edge
Gilbert Varela, Idaho State’s veteran defensive lineman, profiles as a steady interior presence rather than a flashy stat-chaser: in the 2018 season he logged 19 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss, and ESPN’s current profile still lists him with production at DL but no recent counting stats beyond that baseline. His value is the kind coaches love—physicality, experience, and consistency in the trenches—plus a legacy of making disruptive plays when healthy. If your team wants a hard-nosed line defender who does the dirty work and brings grown-man effort, he’s the type worth a closer look.
