Dual-threat QB with upside, but the passing efficiency still has room to grow
McCown is a live-arm, athletic quarterback whose best calling card is how he can create offense with his legs when plays break down; in Lamar’s 2025 season he showed flashes as a runner and scored 10 total touchdowns, but his passing line was modest, with 12 completions on 25 attempts for 81 yards and no passing TDs, according to CBS Sports and FOX Sports.[2][4][7] He entered Lamar as a three-star recruit with a strong high school résumé, including 2,312 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns and 780 rushing yards in his first season of football, which suggests real developmental upside.[6][8] For a team, he fits best as a high-variance playmaker who brings mobility and competitiveness, not yet a polished plug-and-play passer.[2][6]
