Versatile, veteran Gopher DB with real playmaking juice
Derrick Wells stands out as a versatile Minnesota defensive back who earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2024 after a standout opener, and he was described by Minnesota coverage as a three-year starter with four career interceptions. He brings experience, ball skills, and a steady, physical presence that coaches love in a DB room, though his profile is more about reliability and football IQ than flashy pure speed. If a team wants a seasoned, competitive defensive back who has already shown he can make game-changing plays, Wells is a smart fit.
