A hard-nosed, underrated Maryland fullback who fueled a strong Terps ground game
Kalapinski was a blue-collar, hard-working Maryland fullback whose value showed up in both his own tough rushing and the blocking that helped spring LaMont Jordan’s record-setting 1999 season. In the 1998 season, he ranked among the ACC’s rushing leaders and averaged 4.9 yards per carry; in 1999, he averaged 4.6 yards on limited carries and scored three rushing touchdowns. His differentiator was reliability: physical, efficient, and quietly effective, with a reputation as one of the ACC’s most underrated backs and the No. 3 fullback nationally in preseason recognition.
