the reliable leg SMU leaned on in the 2013 era
Mike Loftus was SMU’s punter/placekicker in the 2011-13 window and even landed on the 2013 Ray Guy Award watch list, a strong signal that his leg talent had national attention. His standout value was versatility and reliability on special teams—he handled kickoffs and punting duties, with game logs showing deep kickoffs and steady field-position impact. If you need a specialist who can flip the field and quietly keep drives honest, Loftus fits that profile; the public trail does not show major injury red flags, but his best-known impact comes from his SMU tenure rather than a current 2026 role.
