Big-frame Tar Heel righty trending up in Chapel Hill
In the 2025 season, Olin Johnson emerged as a useful North Carolina bullpen piece, posting a 3.56 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 30.1 innings after a tougher 2024 season, when he logged a 4.96 ERA in 16.1 innings[4]. At 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, he brings a power look, and the buzz around him is simple: he’s a big-bodied reliever who can miss bats and give UNC dependable innings when the pressure rises[3][9]. He even helped the Tar Heels in a combined no-hitter, which is the kind of “he belongs in the leverage mix” signal coaches love[12].
