Dan Sheldon brings NIU a proven playmaker with big-game juice
In the 2004 season, Dan Sheldon was a high-upside Northern Illinois wideout who combined production with playmaking flair: he ranked No. 10 nationally in receiving yards per game (97.4) and No. 11 in punt returns (16.1 yards per return), while also earning CoSIDA District V All-Academic honors.[15] He finished his NIU career with 94 catches for 1,986 yards and 18 touchdowns, and his signature differentiator was explosiveness in space—he also led the nation in punt-return average in 2002 (22.7). Fans of smart, competitive, dual-threat receivers would care because he consistently showed he could change a game with one touch.[10][15]
