Long, scoring-minded UMBC guard with proven shot-making upside
Malcolm Brent is a 6-foot-5 guard who showed he could stretch defenses as a freshman at UMBC, including a 15-point game against UMass Lowell in the 2014-15 season and a 15-point outing with four threes against Liberty in 2014-15. His biggest differentiator is size for the backcourt plus perimeter range, which gives a coach lineup flexibility and a usable floor-spacer who can also attack if defenders close out recklessly. UMBC’s roster bio also notes he earned his degree in economics in three years, a small but real marker of maturity and discipline.
