Fred Townsend brings old-school Citadel toughness to the line
Fred Townsend has been a disruptive, assignment-sound defensive lineman for The Citadel, with game logs showing tackles for loss and occasional backfield pressure in the 2002-2005 seasons; in 2004, The Citadel’s staff specifically highlighted moving the 6-foot-1, 250-pound sophomore inside to tackle to maximize his speed, and he later served as a captain in 2005. He looks like the kind of tone-setter coaches love: physical, versatile, and gritty rather than flashy. If you want a hard-nosed, scheme-flexible DL who fits a demanding, blue-collar defense, Townsend is very much your guy.
