Big-frame veteran with a cannon arm, but the injury bug crashed the party
In the 2018 season, Wilton Speight gave UCLA a pro-style passing option with size, experience and a strong downfield arm, throwing for 1,527 yards, 6 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in 7 games while posting a 60.6% completion rate. He was named the Bruins’ opening-day starter and flashed big-play potential, including a 466-yard outing against Stanford, but a back injury quickly derailed his run and handed the offense to Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Bottom line: when healthy, he looked like a steady, veteran fit for a timing-based attack—but durability was the defining question mark.
