Abel Ortiz gives Coppin State a live-arm lefty look, but the freshman profile is still a work in progress
In the 2026 season, Coppin State freshman Abel Ortiz has flashed real strikeout ability, including four K’s in two-thirds of an inning against LIU, but his season line has been uneven with a 7.85 ERA and 18.1 innings logged. The pitch mix looks interesting because he throws left-handed and has shown bat-missing upside, yet the command and consistency are still catching up. If you need a developmental arm with some swing-and-miss traits and patience baked in, he’s a name to watch; if you need an instant shutdown guy, not quite there yet.
