compact middle-infield spark with real on-base upside
In the 2026 season, Gardner-Webb infielder Anthony Umbach has been a limited but intriguing piece: he’s a right-handed, 5-foot-7 junior who brings middle-infield versatility and a compact, contact-oriented profile. His 2026 line shows just 1 hit in 14 plate appearances, but his 2024 Gardner-Webb season hinted at value with 12 hits, 10 walks, 16 RBIs, and a run-producing knack in a utility role. The draw is the combination of defensive flexibility, infield reliability, and a grinder mentality—more “steady glue guy” than flashy star, which can absolutely fit the right roster.
