Cal Poly’s tackle machine and defensive tone-setter
Matt Shotwell has long been the kind of linebacker coaches trust: productive, durable, and instinctive, with a résumé that includes 345 career tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and 17 double-digit tackle games by the end of his Cal Poly career. In the 2021 season, he was a Walter Camp FCS All-American and Cal Poly’s leading tackler again, which says a lot about his consistency and motor. He stands out for physicality, pursuit, and leadership; the family-legacy angle is fun, but the real value is a relentless, dependable defender who fits a program needing toughness and production.
