Gene Trujillo brings loud left-side pop and gap power for UNM
In the 2026 season, Trujillo opened with Mountain West Player of the Week honors after a monster first weekend, batting .563 with 10 RBI and five doubles, and his game is built around real power from the first-base spot rather than empty contact. He also showed he can carry an offense in 2025-26 by posting a .314 average early before settling in as one of New Mexico’s most dangerous run producers. The big differentiator: he bounced back after a wrist issue in 2025 and looked fully healthy, which makes his bat a strong fit for a team needing middle-of-the-order thump.
