CJ Bussell gives Iona a power arm with late-blooming bullpen value
In the 2026 season, CJ Bussell appeared in three games out of Iona’s bullpen and struck out four batters in 2.1 innings, hinting at a right-handed reliever who can miss bats in short bursts. At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, he brings a sturdy, pro-style frame and a straightforward power-pitcher look that can fit a staff seeking strike-throwing depth and size. The bigger question is usage: his current profile suggests a low-volume, high-upside bullpen piece rather than a finished product, but that can still be a useful fit for teams needing an experienced arm with some swing-and-miss potential.
