NIU’s record-book hammer at punter
In his NIU career, Matt Ference has been a field-position weapon, finishing with school-record punting volume and a 41.9-yard career average, with 310 punts and 12,992 yards from 2017-2021. He wasn’t just a high-volume guy; NIU notes he repeatedly pinned teams deep and piled up MAC weekly honors, which points to poise, consistency, and a real feel for game flow. The fit question? If you want a dependable punter who changes possession math and can flip the field, Ference’s profile screams yes.
