Trent Newton brings veteran linebacker grit and playmaking upside to Savannah State
Trent Newton is a seasoned, disruptive linebacker with proven production: in the 2009 season at Fort Valley State, he returned from injury to post 55 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 pass breakups, and 2 fumble recoveries, earning All-SIAC second-team honors. That profile says “impact player,” not just “tackler”—Newton’s value shows up in backfield disruption, takeaways, and toughness after an abbreviated season. If you want an experienced, physical defender who can change field position and punch above his box-score weight, he’s the kind of linebacker coaches love.
