UTRGV's Mexican-Born Velocity Rocket Ready to Explode in 2026
Carlos Vallejo, a 6-3, 220-pound right-handed pitcher from Reynosa, Mexico, enters his junior season at UTRGV after a breakout 2025 at Frank Phillips College (4-5, 4.59 ERA, 72 K's in 49 IP over 11 games), highlighted by a 23 MPH velocity surge from 62 to 85+ MPH via innovative training. Earned UTRGV Athlete of the Week honors in a recent hitless 4-IP gem. His raw power, international grit, and rapid development make him a high-upside arm with starter potential—perfect fit for teams seeking a strikeout machine with command upside and no known injury red flags.
