Jacob Hyder is a young, rangy linebacker trying to earn his stripes in Lamar’s rebuilt front seven
In the 2026 season, Jacob Hyder is listed as a freshman linebacker for Lamar at 6-foot-1 and 201 pounds, and Lamar’s coaches note he redshirted the 2025 campaign before joining a linebacker room that returns key experience.[13][5] He’s more of a projection play than a proven stat-sheet monster right now—no game-log production is available yet—but his value is in linebacker basics: reading plays, fitting run lanes, and communicating cleanly in a defense that ranked third in the Southland in total defense in 2025.[1][13] If you want a developmental defender with upside rather than instant star power, he fits the bill.
