VMI’s Robert Mason: veteran-ballhawk energy with a tackling edge
Robert Mason has been a disruptive presence for VMI, and in the 2005 season he was credited as the Big South’s tackles leader with 120 stops while also drawing “All-America candidate” buzz as a free safety[6]. Earlier VMI coverage also noted him delivering impact hits that helped force turnovers, which points to a physical, downhill style rather than just a numbers-first profile[2][4]. If you want a safety who brings range, reliability, and tone-setting intensity, Mason fits; if you need a pure coverage-only specialist, he looks more like a playmaking enforcer.
