Big lefty arm, real swing-and-miss upside, still ironing out the college polish
As a freshman LHP for Alabama in the 2026 season, Luke Smyers brings a pro-style 6-3 frame, a left-on-left look, and legit bat-missing stuff that showed up early with 16 strikeouts in 13.2 innings and a career-high four-strikeout outing against South Alabama. His fastball-slider-changeup mix already gives him starter traits, and his high school résumé — a Gatorade Virginia Player of the Year season with a 0.41 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 51 innings — screams upside. The fit? Intriguing if you want a high-ceiling arm who can grow into command, consistency, and bigger innings.
