Jacksonville State Legend Turned Gamecock Coach, Not Current DB
Maxwell Thurmond is not an active college football DB for the Jacksonville State Gamecocks—he's a veteran coach returning for his third stint with the program in 2025 as outside linebackers and special teams coordinator after stints at Tennessee (2022-24, aiding Orange Bowl win and 2024 CFP berth), Austin Peay, and interim head coach (1-1 in 2021). A former JSU player and high school standout, his differentiator is snapping the Govs' 29-game NCAA losing streak post-2016; his intensity and program loyalty make him a coach worth watching, but not a recruitable athlete.
