High-motor freshman LB with playmaking upside
Mason Claus enters South Dakota as a freshman linebacker with a productive high-school résumé and real two-way toughness. In his senior season at Keokuk High School, he posted 71.5 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, five sacks and a forced fumble, while also adding 29 catches for 562 yards and five touchdowns—an all-around athlete with a nose for impact plays. He was a three-time First Team All-District pick and Defensive MVP, and his academic leadership suggests strong coachability. For a team, he looks like a developmental fit with energy, versatility and room to grow into the Missouri Valley grind.
