Versatile OSU guard remembered for skill, toughness, and personality
Daniel Lawson was a 6-foot-5 guard at Oklahoma State who arrived with a polished offensive game, averaging 15.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.4 steals per game at Mott Community College before joining the Cowboys in 1999-2000[1]. Oklahoma State described him as a “very skilled and versatile” perimeter player who could fill multiple roles, and later tributes remembered him as a sweet-shooting, upbeat presence who kept teammates loose[1][6]. For a program needing a multi-position guard with playmaking, defense, and personality, Lawson fit the mold—though his OSU career was tragically cut short in 2001[3][11].
