Matt Cornelius gives New Mexico a veteran lefty look with strikeout flashes
In the 2025 season, Matthew Cornelius worked 13.1 innings for New Mexico, going 1-0 with 13 strikeouts, and he showed he can steady a game with two shutout innings against Air Force in May 2026. The eye-catcher is the arm side: a left-handed reliever with real strikeout ability, but the 2025 stat line also shows command/consistency issues, so he profiles more as a situational impact piece than a polished shutdown arm right now. If your team wants a battle-tested, experienced lefty with some bite, he’s interesting; if you need pristine control, that’s still the question mark.
