Declan Spooner is a promising left-handed-hitting catcher with real pop and polish
In the 2026 season, Declan Spooner has flashed as a freshman catcher for St. John’s, including his first collegiate hit in a 2-for-3 effort against Hofstra on April 28, 2026, while season stat lines show limited early production as he settles in. His calling card is upside: recruiting reports describe a stronger frame, quick actions behind the plate, and a compact left-handed swing with loud contact and strong exit-velocity numbers. He looks like a fit for teams that value catching skills, athletic defense, and offensive projection over immediate finished-product production.
