Duke’s shot-blocking anchor with pro-level rim protection
In the 2006-07 season, Alison Bales was a defensive force for Duke, averaging 11.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.4 blocks per game while leading the NCAA in blocks; she also added 1.1 steals and earned honorable mention All-America recognition. Her calling card was obvious: elite length, timing and rim protection, with 26 games of four-plus blocks and a reputation as the back-line enforcer who made Duke’s defense feel annoyingly bigger than the court itself. For a team needing interior defense, rebounding and a true paint anchor, she was a terrific fit.
