Virginia Tech's Mali-Born Big Man with Untapped Defensive Flair
Cheick Diakite, a 6'9" center from Bamako, Mali, averaged 2.5 PPG and 2.9 RPG over his Virginia Tech career (2007-2011), showcasing rim protection with standout games like 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 20 minutes against Duke in 2009. His physicality shone in gritty ACC battles, battling pros like Jimmy Graham for boards, marking him as a high-motor rebounder and shot-blocker. Ideal for teams needing intense, undersized bigs who bring international toughness and defensive intensity—perfect bench energy without ego.
