Markel Byrd brings ball-hawking instincts and return-game juice to New Mexico
Markel Byrd stood out as a versatile New Mexico safety who translated well from high school quarterback to defense, showing strong play-reading ability and playmaking upside. In his Lobos career, he was credited with 91 tackles and four interceptions, and he also added value as a dynamic returner with big-play speed in the open field. He is the kind of defender who can help a team with instincts, range, and special-teams impact rather than just raw tackles.
