steady floor general, high-IQ passer, and veteran Hawkeye leader
Gesell’s calling card at Iowa was consistency: in the 2015-16 season, he averaged 8.0 points and 4.2 assists while shooting 39.5% from the field, giving the Hawkeyes a reliable organizer at point guard.[2][4] He was never just a box-score guard—his value came from pace control, decision-making, and a veteran presence that kept the offense organized even when his scoring stayed modest.[2][6] If you want a lead guard who brings toughness, experience, and table-setting over flash, he fits the mold.
