RJ Hester brings compact, physical depth to Texas Tech’s secondary
RJ Hester is a 5-9, 185-pound junior defensive back on Texas Tech’s 2026 roster, giving the Red Raiders a compact, physical option in the back end[1]. His frame suggests a defender built for quick reaction, leverage, and toughness in coverage and run support, which are the kinds of traits coaches love when they need reliability over flash[1]. He’s not presented as a headline star, but that can be a plus: he looks like a depth-piece with blue-collar energy and special-teams value potential rather than a pure hype machine[1].
