Jayce Smalley was a steady, high-IQ linebacker who delivered when UC Davis needed him most
In the 2022 season, Jayce Smalley started all 11 games for UC Davis and ranked third on the team with 48 total tackles, adding 4 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 pass breakups, and a fumble recovery. He popped in the big moments too: 14 tackles against Sacramento State showed real downhill bite. What makes him intriguing is the blend—productive, disciplined, and highly accomplished in the classroom, with a reputation for leadership and patience rather than flash. If you want a dependable inside linebacker with brains, toughness, and no-nonsense consistency, he fits.
