John Gay brings speed, effort, and versatility to Maine’s backfield
John Gay is a compact, high-effort running back whose biggest calling cards are **speed**, **acceleration**, and a willingness to contribute on **special teams**; in 2024, Maine listed him as appearing in all 11 games with only modest offensive production, but his own scouting comments emphasize a player who can create problems with one burst and add value wherever a staff needs him.[2][6] He looks like a fit for teams that want a **team-first**, do-everything back rather than a pure volume runner, especially if they value toughness, quickness, and dependable effort over flashy stat lines.[2][6]
