Air Force's Promising Big Man from the 2008-09 Freshman Class
Sammy Schafer, a 6'10" center for the Air Force Falcons, burst onto the scene in the 2008-09 season as a freshman, appearing in 23 games and earning starts in the final 11, including a career-high 12 points in a standout performance; his rapid rise to starter status highlights his work ethic, basketball IQ, and ability to battle in the paint against bigger foes in the tough Mountain West Conference. With no notable injury history and a military academy mindset of discipline and toughness, Schafer's rebounding tenacity and scoring touch around the rim make him a reliable, high-motor fit for teams needing gritty frontcourt depth—definitely one to watch if he developed further.
