High-upside FSU righty sidelined in 2026, but still a name to know
Braxton Varnes is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-hander with a three-pitch mix that drew early buzz — low-90s fastball, effective changeup, and mid-70s curveball — but he was ruled out for the 2026 season because of an arm injury after looking sharp in fall and preseason work[4]. Florida State listed him as a freshman on its 2026 roster and a junior on its 2027 roster, and he comes with legit bloodlines as the son of former Seminoles standout Blair Varnes[2][3]. In short: the stuff and pedigree are real, but the immediate fit is a wait-and-see play until he’s healthy.
