Mike O’Guin is a battle-tested defensive line coach, not a current SMU DT
Mike O’Guin is listed as SMU alumnus and former Mustang defensive lineman, but his playing career ended in 2011 after a knee injury, and he later built a reputation as a Texas defensive line coach and recruiter. In 2025, Texas Football praised him for turning Texas State’s defensive front into a “consistent and dynamic unit,” which points to strong teaching, player development, and toughness-over-flash traits. If you’re asking whether he’s a fit, the answer is yes for a program that values line development, energy, and recruiting credibility in Texas—but he is not a current SMU player.
