Temple’s former QB who earned respect with grit, poise, and a team-first switch
Vaughn Charlton was a 6-foot-4, 230-pound junior quarterback for Temple in the 2008 season, a three-year starter at Avon Grove who brought a pro-style background and a reputation for calm, efficient passing; he completed 98 of 195 passes for 1,337 yards and 9 touchdowns in high school, and Temple’s own coverage highlighted his “selfless” move to tight end after playing QB. In the 2009 season, he showed he could manage an offense in key spots, including a 13-of-23, 159-yard, 1-TD bowl performance, making him the kind of athlete coaches love: tough, adaptable, and willing to do the unglamorous work.
