Damon Hancock brings veteran shot-making and steady guard play to SMU
In the 2001–02 season, Damon Hancock was SMU’s senior guard and a clear offensive engine, averaging 16.7 points and 3.2 assists per game while earning first-team All-District 9 honors[1][2]. He stands out as a seasoned, confident scorer who can create his own shot, attack the basket, and still make plays for others—exactly the kind of tough, experienced backcourt presence coaches love. Stat leaders also show he ranked among SMU’s top all-time scorers, which backs up the reputation: this is a guard who has been carrying real load, not just filling a box score[13].
