Johnetta Hayes brings elite rim protection and veteran winning pedigree to Rice
Hayes is best known as a hard-nosed, paint-anchoring center whose impact goes beyond scoring: during her college career at Rutgers, she ranked 16th nationally in blocks per game in 2002-03 and still sits third in program history in total blocks, signaling real defensive value at the rim[3]. She also carries a coach’s-eye reputation for toughness and winning culture, which matters for fit if you need a disciplined, defense-first presence who can change shots, communicate, and elevate team intensity[1][2].
