Steven Oberst brings size, movement, and freshman-year production to Western Illinois' defensive front
Oberst is a 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive lineman who already showed real disruption as a freshman at Stetson in 2024, when he played in 11 games and posted 22 total tackles, then arrived at Western Illinois with coaches praising that he can “move,” “run,” and play physical. His appeal is clear: he has the frame, pedigree, and motor of an interior DL who can eat blocks and still make plays, plus a strong high-school résumé with 40 tackles and 8 sacks as a senior. The catch: he did not appear in a game for Western Illinois in 2025, so he profiles more as an upside add than a proven, current-impact anchor.
