UTSA’s old-school tone-setter at linebacker
Kurfehs built his UTSA reputation as a high-motor, physical linebacker who could cover, blitz and make impact plays; in 2013 he was a second-team All-WAC pick after 71 tackles and a team-leading 4.5 sacks, and earlier in his UTSA career he flashed versatility with two interceptions, including the program’s first defensive touchdown. He also carried a leadership profile as a senior captain and was repeatedly described as a key defender in UTSA’s early rise, with injury interruptions making his production even more impressive.
