Josh Hunter is a tone-setting, tackling-first safety for SDSU
In the 2024 season, Josh Hunter emerged as a reliable, high-activity safety for San Diego State, finishing with 30 tackles and 1 pass breakup, and in earlier action he posted a 15-tackle game that matched one of the program’s best single-game defensive performances in recent years. He’s valued for his downhill tackling, speed, and special-teams utility, and SDSU’s roster notes call him a young, athletic safety with real potential. At 5'9" and around 180 pounds, he fits as an energy player and sturdy run-support defender rather than a pure size-based enforcer.
