Colton Vercoe brings strike-throwing polish and power-arm upside to UTRGV’s bullpen
In 2025 at Wichita State, Vercoe went 2-1 with a 5.47 ERA in 26.1 innings but showed a real bullpen weapon profile: 25 strikeouts, only four walks, and multiple hitless outings, which points to above-average command for a pitcher with relief value.[1] MLB Statcast data shows he can miss bats with high-end velocity, giving him a clear differentiator if UTRGV wants a power right-hander who can attack hitters and handle leverage.[8] He also earned Academic All-District recognition in 2026, a useful sign of maturity and reliability.[6]
