NIU's Sack-Tying Freshman Force Who Bounced Back Strong
Craig Rusch, a gritty 6-4, 265-pound defensive tackle from Hilbert, WI, exploded as a freshman in 2008 with 39 tackles, 5 sacks (tied for team lead), 2 forced fumbles, and 2 recoveries, then roared back from a 2007 knee injury to post 20 tackles and 6 TFLs in 12 games as a starter for NIU's MAC-best defense (289.4 ypg allowed). His career haul of 120 tackles, 27 TFLs, and 13 sacks (10th all-time at NIU) screams disruptive interior presence with relentless motor—perfect fit for teams needing tough, injury-resilient DTs who deliver in big moments.
