Mercer’s strike-throwing RHP with starter upside
In the 2026 season, Caleb Hughes has already shown he can give Mercer a real innings-eating look, earning his first collegiate win with 3.0 scoreless-leaning innings, 3 strikeouts, and no walks in a midweek outing. He’s a right-hander who stands out for command and pitch quality, with Mercer’s staff praising his ability to land multiple pitches in the zone—not just throw strikes. The added context: he redshirted at Southern Miss, moved closer to home, and brings a poised, team-first profile that fits a staff needing dependable, competitive arms.
