Philly-tough freshman guard with two-way flashes
Shayla Smith’s Penn State freshman season in 2025-26 showed a gritty, versatile guard who can contribute without needing the ball run through her: she played in 20 games, started two, and finished with 51 points, 52 rebounds, 17 assists, and 12 steals. In limited minutes, she’s shown activity on both ends, decent rebounding for a guard, and enough defensive disruption to hint at a high-motor, team-first fit. The upside is the relentless energy and multipositional toughness; the caution is that her offense is still developing, so she profiles more as a connector and competitor than a finished product.
