Pig Prather’s legacy: playmaker, return menace, and All-SEC ball hawk
Pig Prather was a do-it-all Mississippi State defensive back whose value went far beyond tackles: in his Bulldogs career, he posted 207 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, seven sacks, seven forced fumbles, four interceptions, and 1,390 kickoff return yards, while earning All-SEC and All-American recognition. The big differentiator was range and violence — he could hit, blitz, cover, and flip field position as a returner. His history also shows durability concerns, so the fit conversation is about upside versus risk.
