6'5" TE with ACL Recovery, One Season Eligibility, and Instant Sam Houston Impact
Matt Smith, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound tight end for the Rhode Island Rams, finished the 2025 season with 3 receptions for 13 yards and 1 touchdown before undergoing ACL surgery that sidelined him for the remainder of the year. Despite the injury, his elite size, 40+ D1 games played, and high-intensity personality make him a standout differentiator. Now transferring to Sam Houston with one season of eligibility, Smith is poised for instant impact. His resilience post-ACL, combined with his physical dominance and football IQ, answers why you should care: he’s a battle-tested, high-upside TE who fits any team seeking a reliable, intense red-zone threat with leadership grit.
