former BYU speed back with a big-play high school résumé
In the 2003 season, Thomas Stancil gave BYU a compact, explosive change-of-pace option, rushing 15 times for 77 yards and adding 2 catches for 8 yards across 5 games. His appeal was obvious: a smaller, quick-footed back who arrived with a huge Bakersfield HS résumé, including 1,772 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior, plus 1,995 yards as a junior. The catch? His BYU career was brief, and off-field honor-code issues ended it early, so the fit depended as much on trust and maturity as on burst.
