a tone-setting safety with a nose for the ball
In the 2006 season, Northwestern State’s Russ Washington was a veteran safety and one of the Demons’ defensive anchors, known for smart, hard-hitting play, strong run support, and command of the secondary. He had 258 career tackles at that point, ranked among the program’s better pass-breakup defenders, and even scored two interception touchdowns, which screams playmaker, not just tackler. The best fit for him is a defense that wants a physical, vocal back-end leader who can blitz, diagnose quickly, and bring some old-school edge to the party.
